about
Updated for 2021: November has been rearranged, remixed, and remastered and will now be the closing track on Lessons in Hunger, Part 2. In recent years, the month of November has become more meaningful and poignant to us for several reasons, and we've tried to capture those feelings in this record. Seasonally, November is a month that carries us from the still-warm and colorful days of autumn to the darker, colder, and quieter months of winter. As we age, if we are perceptive, we observe similar changes in our bodies and in how we think about and experience life. This song is about accepting, and even celebrating, the bittersweetness of this transition.
lyrics
Release me my friend
Let your knuckles unclench
It's winter's first breath
Let the cold tumble in
Bring on the November skies
I'll pull the wool over your eyes
If it gets you through the night
The babe in the basket, his mother knew best
was to break her own heart
send forth his nest
he floated on
while she sat and wept
Bring on November skies
I'll pull the wool over your eyes
If it gets you through the night
They sit at their banquets, we wait to get thin
Some are gifted beginnings, we are charged with the end
Come with chrysanthemums, leave with a story
Let the paint chips remind us of our former glory
Lay with me lover, compound the warmth
Our threadbare cover, the dwindling hearth
Pray for the fever, and stare down the flame
As the clarity blurs, may the visions sustain
Bring on Nov skies
I'll pull the wool over your eyes
If it gets you through the night
They sit at their banquets, we wait to get thin
Some are gifted beginnings, we are charged with the end
Come with chrysanthemums, leave with a story
Let the paint chips remind us of our former glory
They sit at their banquets, we wait to get thin
Some are gifted beginnings, we are charged with the end
Come with chrysanthemums, leave with a story
Let the paint chips remind us of our former glory
